About Running Over 40
Hi, I’m Tim.
I’m 48 years old, and I’ve been running for most of my life—over three decades of early mornings, track workouts, road miles, injuries, comebacks, and everything in between.
Running Over 40 exists for one simple reason:
to show that getting older doesn’t mean getting slower, weaker, or giving up on big goals.
I don’t believe running after 40 should be about “just staying active” or lowering expectations. I believe it can still be about progress, competition, health, and personal bests—as long as you train smarter and listen to your body.
Why this site exists
As runners get older, the advice often falls into two extremes:
Train like you’re 25 and risk burnout or injury
Or slow way down and accept decline as inevitable
I don’t think either approach works.
This site is about finding the middle ground:
Training with intention
Fueling appropriately
Prioritizing recovery
And staying honest about what actually works after 40
I’m not here to sell hype or shortcuts. I’m here to document the process—the good, the messy, and the adjustments along the way.
The current challenge: 20 Under 6
In 2026, I’m taking on a personal challenge I call 20 Under 6:
Lose 20 pounds safely and sustainably
Run a sub-6-minute mile at 48 years old
I’m starting this journey at:
6'1", ~200 lbs
A current best mile of ~7:03
While recovering from hand surgery
This isn’t a transformation story with a guaranteed ending. It’s a real-time experiment—one that will include setbacks, learning, and course corrections. I’ll share what works, what doesn’t, and how I adapt along the way.
What you’ll find here
On Running Over 40, I write about:
Speed development and mile-focused training

Recovery, sleep, and longevity
Gear I actually use and trust
The mental side of training as life gets busier
Everything here is grounded in experience, consistency, and honesty.
